Asia, home to some of the world’s fastest growing economies, is becoming one of the most important investment destinations in the world. Asian equity markets are abound with rapidly growing sectors and are also trading at attractive valuations. However, it is important for investors to be mindful that Asian equity volatility can be elevated at times and requires an active stock picking approach to capitalize on market inefficiencies. The Asian fixed income market’s attractive yields and risk/return profiles continue to draw more domestic and international investors year after year. With its diversity and multiple alpha sources, active managers can use a flexible, unconstrained approach to generate positive returns throughout the market cycle. Dennis will share insights on Asia and how best to harvest the attractive opportunities in both Asian equity and fixed income markets.
Robo Advisory in Asia by Ned Phillips, Bambu
Presenting on the impact Robo-advisors have in financial and commercial firms and the growth of Robo-advisors in Asia in comparison to other countries over the next few years.
Focusing primarily on FX market developments so far in 2017 and the likely future direction for currencies, but also touching on other markets and their impact on FX, central banks and the ‘Trump trade’.
About the Speakers
Dennis Quah leads the wholesale distribution team that covers intermediaries including asset managers, private banks, retail banks, and financial advisors in the region. Prior to joining Columbia Threadneedle Investments at the end of 2015, he was most recently Head of Distribution Sales, Southeast Asia for Amundi Asset Management.
He has also held investment product management, asset management business development and financial advisory roles over his 15 years in the finance industry.
Finance pioneer Ned Phillips has been based in Asia for the past 25 years; starting his adventure in FinTech since 1999 with E*TRADE, as one of the very first online brokers before becoming Managing Director in 2007. Part of the transformation of the stock exchange as he developed two pan Asian exchange, one of which is in conjunction with SGX and Chi-X.
Ned was also a consultant to eight Securities as they launched the first Robo Advisor in Asia. With such an insightful exposure and development over the years, Ned saw an opportunity in the B2B space to build a solution for this sector which lead to the birth of Bambu.
Richard Lloyd, based in Singapore, has more than four decades in the FX markets, trading and analysing spot, options and forwards and related markets. He has spent the past 7 years working as an analyst for Thomson Reuters, where he manages the FX Buzz team in Asia.
Prior to that he spent six years running ABN-AMRO’s G10 FX trading desk in Asia, helping to build the regional franchise that RBS acquired in 2008. Before joining ABN, he headed Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s global FX trading and sales operations where his desk was among the first to trade the euro common currency in 1999. Lloyd started his career as a spot FX trader at Morgan Guaranty Trust in London and then worked at banks in Los Angeles and New York for 14 years, including Bank of America.Book Now
